My grandfather used an oar and my father used a wooden beach paddle. (both on me).
Must be nice in slipper world.
Discipline usually works, but parenting is mostly psychological and luck.

I certainly believe that this sort of punishment has been "sorely" missed, and it's abolishment has contributed to the society we live in today. I can remember the punishments dished out by teachers, they did me no harm, and I believe that we all learned to behave better. Unfortunately as time has passed some people have abused the system and their children, but I still believe that a responsible parent should not be admonished for trying to bring up their children with a threat of "a clip round the ear"

My mom used to chase us down with her "house slippers" and whack us with them. I come from an Italian family, and my grandmothers favorite weapon of discipline was a wooden spoon.
I tend to agree with your assessment of the death of slippering. I would think that if it was done in this day and age, there would be consequences for the parents, and rightfully so!

Actually, I have been whacked a few times with odd objects. A slipper too. I was hit with whatever was closest to the person punishing me. Keys, shoes, belts...anything.

Why any sensible parent would want to smack a child with a dirty germ-infested slipper is beyond me. Kids should be smacked with air-filled balloons, so as to cause absolutely no pain and no injury.

These days you get kids suing their parents for hitting them! To me with the attitude of a lot of young people I've encountered there's not enough of them getting the slipper!! Too many of them brought up with MTV with no respect for themselves never mind others.

I got the willow switch. Ouch. But not today, the kids will take you to court. I would not do that to my children anyway. There are too many other forms of discipline to need smacking.

I'm sorry that's funny. I have never heard of slippering before. I can only imagine.
