Go into start/run and type msconfig

Then go to the startup tab and remove all unnessary programs you have running on there. (ie leave your anti virus etc on there)

This will free up alot of RAM as it will remove all the backgound proccesses that run that you don't need to have running.

If virtual memory is low, then you are likely running out of hard drive space. Go to Start->My Computer and right click on the hard drive icon and choose "Properties". This will tell you how much disk space you have free. If it is less than 1-2GB, then you need to clean out your hard drive.

Go to Start->Control Panel->Add/Remove programs and remove any software that you do not use.

If you have a lot of music or video or games on your computer, you should try delete those that you no longer use.

In order to increase Virtual Memoty do this :

Go to Control Panel > System > Advanced > Settings (performance) > Advanced > Change (virtual memory)

Then select Drive C from the list of drives and set custom size to be 1280 ( min) and 2500 (max) and click on set. Thats it. Before exiting "system properties" click apply.

If you haven't changed the vm settings yourself, chances are your hard drive is getting full up. VM refers to the process of saving what's in RAM onto your hard drive to make room for something else, and Windows automatically apportions a percentage of your hard drive for that purpose. So what you could do is physically change the settings to a larger number or off-load some of your files like music, pics, and vids.

Good Luck
