yes, it's possible. And calling your sister into question on her claims is probably insulting to her. Even if you don't really believe it, she does.

Every child develops differently, yes it is possible. I met a woman who had a 12 pound baby boy and he was rolling all over by 2 weeks old, he was sitting up on his own at 1 1/2 months, and walking by 5 months. She said she never had an infant, he seemed more like a toddler by the time he was 10 months. He also had a big dad. genetics play a huge roll! If shortness runs in your family, your baby will always be in the 50%. You know what that is, right? It is the AVERAGE of what you get when you line up 100 babies. Not all babies are the same height, weight, or development stage. Are you jealous?
Maybe you should ask to be introduced since you're a mom too and would like another friend.

I have a 4 month old son (born 9/3/06). He is over the 100th percentile in weight & length (22 lbs.; current length unknown). He has been a guided walker for over a month. He walks when I hold his hands or his waist.
Although it's exciting for us parents, if you could see it, it wouldn't be hard to believe because admittedly -- it's not super-phenomenal. He supports his own weight, but doesn't quite have the balance thing down. The stepping could be reflexive.
It's not really a measure of intelligence or strength in any other point of their lives. Everything averages out in the long run based on other factors.
P.S. He's not weird.

My son was 95 % at 4 months old but he was so fat and i breast fed him but at 6 months he leveled out to the 50% . most kids level out there. My son's legs were very strong too and he did the same thing that your friends sister baby did but the walking your friend is talking about will soon go away he is not really trying to walk yet. My son ended up not even walking on his own until he was eleven months. All babies do things at there own pace so don't worry.

My 4 month daughter is in the 98% percentile and stands with very little support at all (usually just holding my pointer fingers). If you hold her under her arms a little she will play at walking tho she's not very coordinated with her steps. Her face lights up and she's delighted when she can actually propel herself forward. It's very funny to watch someone so little trying to walk and unbelievable as it may sound it's possible. I wouldn't have believed it either until I had her. I wouldn't call it independent walking yet by any means but I think it's a great early start.

If you child was underweight or too short for his age your pediatrician would have told you. Don't listen to Miss 95% about her 4 month old walking. That's crap. Your child will walk when he is ready and not a minute sooner. Relax and find a friend that tells you how gorgeous your son is and what an awesome Mommy you are!!

The walking bit I am not sure about, but if he is, your friends sister will regret that, he will be into everything a lot faster. As for the percentile, my kids were like 97% and off of the charts, especially for height! Don't doubt it, stranger things have happened. But that will be one heck of a meddler! Be glad that your son is not walking by himself yet, that will save you from having to move a ton of things that he can get into! Don't worry, your son is just right, he will walk when he is ready, don't push him. Be patient it will happen in time, and it will fly by! Good Luck!

totally possible...my 2yr waled at 10mths and talked at 6mths...and i have a 6mth old now and 3 weeks ago she held herself up at the table and took 6 steps around it all by herself to get a toy and at 4 mths could walk with me holding her hands, she is a big girl..in the 95% for her age, but her sister developed really fast too and is only in the 40% for her age(size wise)it is perfectly normal for girls to develop faster than boys...but every child develops at his or her own rate...dont worry your doing a great job...pick up the books "What to Expect The First Year" & "What To Expect The Toddler Years" They r great and will let u know everything your child should be and could be doing..Good Luck

the guided walking bit is a reflex. they generally lose it about 5-6 months old, though some never do. size wise its possible, i had one that was 10 lbs at birth and 20 at 3 months, well above the 100th percentile

My daughter is 4 1/2 months old and if i hold on to her she can "act" like she is walking but she isn't really. My daughter is also in the 95th percentile for everything because of her dad is big.

One thing to remember about children...
Every one is totally different!
If your daughter is in the 50% area...that is wonderful. That means that of 100 children her age...
half are smaller and half are larger...so I'd say she is PERFECT!
One tiny bit of advise from this oldmom...
don't worry too much about what other mom's tell you..trust your instincts and enjoy your little one..they grow sooooo fast.
