I think there are a lot of people who are doing precisely what you mention...they need to be "reassured" of their limited or ignorant perspective. Also, there are those who simply want attention by asking ridiculous or absurd questions. However, many truly want to investigate others' opinions or find answers to legitimate inquiries. I believe if we all stop answering the absurd questions which are posted, then these nut cases will eventually stop wasting our time.

That's pretty arrogant thinking on your part. How do you presume to know what the people who pose questions here are looking for? You can't stereotype people that way. When I post questions here, I'm looking for different viewpoints and information. If I was just looking for someone to agree with me, that would pretty much defeat the purpose and be no reason to post the question.
