I am venting more than actually asking because I don't think this question has a solid answer, but it seems my experience that when talking to a man (or boy- doesn't matter the age) he CAN NOT let the person he is talking to finish a sentence withought interrupting....this (I think) is the most annoying and disrespectful habit there is!

Also, I do agree with the point that it is not always gender related...I guess I've just had more run-ins with males with this habit than females....everyone from my six year old brother the the fiftysomething year old fire inspector....jeesh....it's so annoying....

My experience is that it is NOT gender-related.
Yes, it is annoying, especially if they finish your sentence for you.
Would knowing 'why' actually help?
Why NOT just do something about it?
After confronting my mother (who used to do this often) and two other friends (who used to do this often) and telling them that I found it rude and annoying when they did that, none of them stopped.
I then got into the habit of turning on my heel and leaving the conversation whenever interrupted. Of course they would ask me why I did that.
My answer was: "You are having a conversation with yourself. I see no need to participate. If you decide that you want to hear what I'm saying without interruption, let me know."
That did the trick.

Not only guys do this. But I do know how frustrating it can be. People interrupt for a lot of different reasons, but often it's because you're saying something they don't want to hear. They jump right on it to disagree before you can get too far down the line, so they won't forget to make their point. It's very disrespectful and can be very annoying. What I have done is just stop and fix them with a look... say something like, "I'd like to finsh"... sometimes it works, sometimes not. If someone keeps on doing it to you, try to avoid them. Maybe they'll get the hint?

Well if women would shut the he*l up within a reasonable amount of time during a conversation then there would be no need to interrupt would there? The constant diarrhea of the mouth that most of you suffer from is way more annoying

This isn't gender related, but personality related.

Most of the "Conversational Dominates" suffer from low self worth. It's best to shut up, and after they've exhausted themselves, get your point across in 10 seconds or less.

I too am guilty of this due to the fact that I am very impatient...but I'm working on it.

Gender usually has nothing to do with it...

I would have to say that the (Males) that you have been conversing with, are controlling and selfish. That's it.
