how can i iron my clothes without them stretching wide?

make sure they are not damp or they will stretch. Dry completely!

Sounds like you may be trying to iron knit fabric. You shouldn't have to iron knits if you promptly remove them from the dryer and fold or hang. If knit is not your fabric you only need to smooth the fabric over your ironing board, not pull it out of its natural proportions. If you are small and your clothes don't fit over a standard ironing board look for one of those smaller tabletop darning sized ironing boards. Hope this helps.
