* Creation of the Church of England (aka Anglican Church aka Episcopalianism in the US) when Henry VIII wants to divorce his wife, and the Pope won't let him.

* Mary I aka Bloody Mary becomes queen, undoing Henry's church by reinstating Catholicism as the national religion and having as many as 300 Protestant dissenters executed.

* Elizabeth I becomes queen, encouraging the arts and bringing England into the Renaissance, and restoring the Church of England.

* William Shakespeare (late century and on into the next)

* Francis Drake sails around the world while going after the Spanish possessions in South America.

* Anglo-Spanish war (between England and Spain). Drake defeating the Spanish Armada, then later losing the English Armada in a failed land/sea war.

People didn't wash very often, and they mostly died before they reached 5 years old. If they survived to adulthood, they rarely lived past 40. And their teeth fell out by the time they were 25.

Not too appealing, huh?
