The best quality line of mp3 players are the Creative brand players, they have the best sound quality of any mp3 players and have more cool features than the ipod (which is the bottom of the line.)
Download sites like allofmp3.com has more files at a lower price, but your best bet is to go to the streaming radio stations online and record them for free in any format you like. remember, recording anything that is broadcast (audio of video) is legal and free.

Emusic. Their music is all MP3 with no usage-limiting DRM.
