I want to earn income but stay at home with my 3 month old daughter. I am thinking of selling Mary Kay products. Does anyone sell this and do you enjoy it? Is this a good idea?

As a former Mary Kay consultant my advise is this RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!! The avg income they tell you about ant the sales they tell you about are all based on the wholesale money they INVEST themselves to have an inventory on hand, of which you will end up with half on your shelves sitting there. They'll tell you oh she just didn't try she must not have worked her business or you have to invest money to make money, I busted my butt, I was the number 1 consutant in my area and area Miss GO Give.... I was DIQ Director in Qualification..... You're wanting a business to be at home with your kids, this is not it, you'll be gone more, you'll be going to conferances, you'll be attending weekly meetings, because you have to "show up to go up" You will need to invest a minimum of $1800 wholesale to start your inventory and that is just your inventory thats not the supplies you will need which will be another $300+ then tax on the retail of $3600 so you're looking at spending around $3000 to get started, and you don't get any leads you have to do it all cold contacts.

I was the top Mary Kay rep in my hometown a while back, and still resigned. I found that the company had already experienced hyper-growth and therefore, no matter how good your product, it is difficult to make a living at it. That ship has sailed. I found it difficult to "talk people into" having a home party that they didn't want in the first place and the price was an issue for most as well. If you are looking for a home business to supplement your income you need to do a little homework. First of all, be sure the company is in good standing with the Better Business Bureau, then look for a product in demand. People who choose a business that is in demand by the baby boomers experience far more success. In the 50's it was Gerber baby food, the 60's was Mattel and Fisher Price, the 70's was Real Estate, etc. All had an 18 year window of opportunity by being there for the boomers. What they are looking for now is health and anti-aging., which has become today's multi-billion dollar industry and growing more each day.

I know the original question was from 7 years ago, but this may be of interest to someone asking this same question now.
If you want to sell Mary Kay, then do it. Contrary to what people say, you don't have to buy inventory, you don't have to do parties. Needless to what people say or recommend, it's YOUR business. Personally, I have not done either. I created a face book account and sell through the website that was provided to me when I signed on. Super easy and not a lot of fuss!
You do need to sell 225 wholesale every 3 months. That's easy to do. Try the products first, see if you like them, then wear them and flaunt them. It's what you are selling you are the biggest show and tell! Take a poll with your face book friends and family and ask them that you are thinking about selling Mary Kay would they be interested - before you sign up see if there is a level of interest. Because they will be the first line of people you would want to support you. Then go on the public web with your business - when you get to that point.
I love Mary Kay products. My skin has never felt better. I run my business, like I want too. Other Mary Kay Consultants may not agree with my ways, but it's my way. I answer to myself. I respect the company and their standards; I just don't do all the meetings and parties. And I'm doing just fine! Am I rich, no. But I am a stay at home mom who is connecting with other people and making sales. If you want to talk to me more about becoming a consultant or any other questions drop me a line!

If you are going to sell Mary Kay have people that you know that buy that stuff and will buy from you. Then they can spread it by word of mouth or have a make-up party and you go over a demo the products. For doing anything like that you need to a clientele before you start.

I work for a different health and wellness company. I also did MK about 10 yrs ago. I think that it depends on your clientele. I chose to go with a company that sells more botanically based products, with less chemicals and additives. To each their own, but if that is a concern with you I would love to tell you more about our company. You do not have to purchase a certain quantity every quarter, to maintain a consultant, so no pressure to keep inventory. I think every company has their place, but our company grew 163% last year. That is the biggest growth a Direct Selling company has ever achieved. Invest time in finding out about what is out there, not just hype. If you like something and believe in a product it shows. Best Wishes.

I use to sell MK a few years ago and I made good money. The down side to it was I wasn't home much with my children and there were some MK facial shows where I didn't get in till midnight or after. I finally gave it up because I really was not home enough. I started my own Internet home based business. This business allows me to be at home when I need to be. The other thing with MK is that it is a bit territorial and you need to find out how many other MK reps are in your area. Other then not really being at home much I really enjoyed it though. Here's to your journey wherever life takes you!!!

I'm working with a different company, but I'm sure Mary Kay works if you work it. Don't listen to quitters who will say no.
