There is currently a gas like odor covering Manhattan, Rockefeller Center, and Greenwich Village. There is no sign of elevated natural gas levels or gas leaks. What do you think it is?

I think some silly lab worker accidentally broke a large flask of thiols, that's the stuff added into natural gas to give it it's distinct odor, and is now afraid to admit it.

One of my chemistry professors admitted that when he was a grad student he broke a flask of thiols and then made the mistake of opening a window and a whole block of Philadelphia thought there was a major gas leak and started evacuating. In the end everyone was mad at him.

if a flask is too small. This is just another guess. Maybe the at one fo the plants that add the thiol sulfate into the natural gas, the thiol sulfate tank has sprung a leak.

I live in NYC. I don't think it's funny. The ENTIRE city (not just a few areas...literally ALL of Manhattan) smells like natural gas. I know this ruins the joke for those of you who like fart humor, but it's not that kind of gas--it smells like fuel oil--or like what your gas stovetop smells like before it lights. Sorry kids, it's not farts.

Anyway, it could be a government test to see how the emergency systems react. Or it could be ill-willed people testing out how quickly chemical agents will spread. I don't know. Only the responsible parties know.

And it's more than a flask full of chemical...this is large scale, whatever it is.

There is def something sinister going on. Either terrorists or the government doing a test. Lets see what happens if power goes out for no reason, let see what happens if the whole city smells gas, perhaps next one will be a public water supply issue.

The city was so warm this weekend all the bacteria and other microbes in the muck and mud deep in the bowels of the city and on the silty shores had a little party this weekend. The rain is causing pressure under the city, forceing all that foul air up into buildings.

I think Rosie must have spotted 'The Donald' on the street and let one rip.
