I am in charge of teacher appreciation day for the month of January for my Student Council. My school has approx 40 teachers/staff that are to be recognized. I need to do something that cost no more than $100. Any ideas? Any websites with ideas would be helpful too, all I could find were ideas for a few teachers and would get to be quite expensive for more than 5 or so teachers.

This is my 24th year of teaching, and I have received many "gifts" on Teacher Appreciation Day. Here is the only one I remember:

One or two student council members were assigned to each teacher. They wrote a nice, sincere "thank you" note to their teacher. Some even made-up (nice) poems in tribute to the teacher. The students really had a good time with this, and the teachers all felt really special. I remember 2 students coming in to the faculty dining area, and reading a poem to their English teacher, featuring a tribute to her skill in teaching.

I don't know if that's too "corny" for today's students or not. But 15 years later, I still remember that experience.

Hard to beat the price, either!

Hope that helps.

Teacher Appreciation Ideas For Students

A breakfast is always very nice; at the school I teach at currently that is what they do. At the last school I taught at they did a luncheon. They just got Subway subs and drinks and chips. It was nice. A lot of the student council kids baked cookies and brownies and stuff to go with it.

Another thing that I have gotten is a little bag filled with stuff like a calculator, breath mints, a nail file, etc. The things were clearly donated by companies (there was a toothbrush from a dentists office) and I thought that this was nice. There were also some lunch coupons like from Quizno's or Arby's; buy a sandwich get a free drink, etc.

We have also gotten mugs filled with penny candy and bookmarks with a personal note on it. All of the student council kids took time to sort the teachers (so that each kid had a few teachers that they knew) and then they wrote personal notes. That probably meant the most to me of all.

I would get plants. You should be able to get nice green houseplants from a drugstore or a nursery for about 2.50 each. Depending on what kind of deal you get on the plants, you could either go to IKEA and get the pots that cost, I think, $.50, or you could buy the red clay pots at the nursery and have the Student Council paint and decorate them.

Last year my school's PTA organized, along with the room parents to collect gift card donations from the parents. Then the room parents presented gift card baskets to the teachers There were really useful gift cards to places like Staples, Target, Borders, Barnes & Noble, etc. Then there were really wonderful ones meant just for us to restaurants, spas and department stores. The PTA also organized a luncheon for us with catering donated by a local restaurant. As a teacher I felt it was incredibly thoughtful of them.

At my school, our PTA group puts out a breakfast for us one morning before school....simple things like muffins, donuts, fruit, coffee.
Everyone comes early (about a half hour before school starts) and the parents usually pin a bow or badge on us that has a saying about thanking us. That's all we really need. It's very nice to meet some of the parents and be able to talk to colleagues, too.

Hi, what if you ordered mugs from a catologue like Oriental Trading, and fill it with teas, hot cocoa and maybe a home baked cookie? Hope that helps. I used to bake an assortment of cookies for teachers for the holidays. Such as black and white cookies, rainbow, etc..

Some children come to school, with allmost nothing in the way of supplies. they lack paper, pencils even books. And most teachers dip into their own funds to help them out. How about giving a large box with construction paper, pencils, lined paper, to each teacher for future students? I am sure it would be most appreciated.

as a former teacher, I loved (and still do) getting new Sharpies and sticky notes or note pads. just little things like that to replenish the ones that "walk away" during the first half of the year
