I am a 5' 2" female, and have never let my height get in the way of what I want to do. I skydive, drive a motorbike, Navy career and recently I became a submariner, an job only recently open to women. I excelled at my training, but it had been noted that I have trouble reaching 'some' of the plug ins for the emergency breathing system, which could make it difficult in complete blacknes of a smoke filled compartment if a fire happened. Some people fought to keep me though, and they won.

Still, there are some people that make me feel I do not deserve to be there or have my qualification because I am too short. They make me feel that it is my fault, and I should have no place being there. I admit I have trouble reaching some of the spots, and I am trying to find alternatives, like getting a few inches added to my boots etc. and these ppl laughed at the idea quoting safety. Its hard enough 2 be a female in a guys world, what can I do, or should I admit defeat and go back to ships?

I really have a lot of respect for you and believe that a few inches cannot keep you down. You have come this far and am sure its not to give up. Maybe you can look at other simpler alternatives like carrying a stick(modified depending on the buttons) to make up for those extra inches needed if the inches on the boots don't work.

According to me its the people that make fun of you should give up as I don't see you giving up that easy.

Short stature can be considered a disability in certain situations but you are not short. In fact you are very close to the average height of a girl. You have not told your age. There are some medicines, vitamins and exercise which could add one or two more inches to your height, if done properly under guidance.

The average height for women WORLDWIDE (not US) is 5'3. So no - you are average not disabled in any way. To insinuate that you are disabled is a slap in the face to everyone who is truly disabled or has a legitiment handicap - physically and mentally.
