Or, shall I say is oppression exempt from sin?

Oppression is the arbitrary and cruel exercise of power.

Anyone who have been given the privilege to wield power would be sinning if they misused it in such a way.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states:

Those who exercise authority should do so as a service. "Whoever would be great among you must be your servant." The exercise of authority is measured morally in terms of its divine origin, its reasonable nature and its specific object. No one can command or establish what is contrary to the dignity of persons and the natural law.

With love in Christ.

You may be oppressed physically, but never spiritually. If you are in a bondasge situation i.e. an abusive marriage, walk away. I believe that if you have knowledge of the sin then that makes you responible. However, I also believe that the Word states He is just enough to forgive our sins. If you need guidance to erase fear to walk away from the oppressor seek and ye shall find. The fact that the question was asked states that you are already strong enough to do just that.

Sin uses the tool of "Oppression" to further it's goal. They are concurrent, not mutually exclusive.

"Sin is a term used mainly in a religious context to describe an act that violates a moral rule or the state of having committed such a violation. In monotheistic religions, the code of conduct is determined by God. Colloquially, sin is any thought, word, or act considered immoral, shameful, harmful, or alienative might be termed "sinful"." (Wikipedia)

"Oppression is the negative outcome experienced by people targeted by the cruel exercise of power in a society or social group. The term itself derives from the idea of being "weighted down."" (Wikipedia)

In fact, the definitions seem to lead us to understand that religion (or social law - judical courts - jail- death pen.'s) is the opposition to both sin and oppression. With "Sin" running amuck, it may seem that it is free --- however, in every society, there are those who fight for the ends to sin and oppression.

Are you using sin as in religion or as in just doing something bad within society? Assuming you mean religion, I would have to say oppression is a mix of greed, wrath and gluttony, therefore a sin in theistic viewpoints.
