Yes you can. Granted, Harvard is out of the question--but you have some very good options. Here's what you need to do:

First, get a list of the colleges in your area--especially the community colleges. Be careful not to confuse these with vocational or technical schools. Community colleges are two-year schools that offer the same kind of courses a 4-year university does--they are almost always public and are usually inexpensive. And the credits you earn will transfer to a 4-year school.

what you are looking for is a school that will accept you with just a GED. A 4-year school might--but many do not. However, most community colleges will. Lets assume that's the case for you. Here's how it works.

In a community college, you will be doing real college work (believe me, I went to one). You'll take courses like English lit, college history and science courses--etc. After a year or two, if you run up a good academic record, you won't have any trouble transferring to a 4-year school. If you do really well, you can get into a very good school. A few years ago, a friend of mine did 2 years at a community college, got his "associates degree--and went to Stanford (with a full scholarship!) for his last two years of undergraduate school.

There'll be a lot more to learn about how the "system" works in college. But here's a few hints--

Any college (that you'd want to go to) is going to have tutoring and lab programs available at no charge. All have financial aid offices that can help you with funding--and with how to find a job on campus if you need one. There will be lots of tech courses (like how to do web pages on the internet or operate popular software) available at little or no cost to students. Plus a lot of organizations that can help you academically, give you social opportunities, or set you up to do community service. You should take advantage of these various extracurricular opportunities--they are fun and look good on your resume or when you want to go to graduate school, as many people do (like me--I started in community college; I'm now a grad student at a major university).

Good luck!

Yes you can, I have a GED and im in college. All community colleges will accept your application but if you want to go to a senior for four year college, then you will have to take your SAT/ACT because those scores are taken into account. Your GED score has to be high as well.

My suggestion would be to enroll in your local community college, get your associat'es degree from there and then transfer to a 4 year school.

Of course you can go to school. The largest private university in the country is the University of Phoenix. It has more than 300,000 students and is still growing. They started in 1976 on the foundation that adults deserve a higher education, too. Having your GED is all you need. Make sure your GED is not a Cracker Jacks box degree though. Go to an accredited institution that will allow you to attain your GED in at least a couple of months. If you go through someone that says you can get your GED in 7 days, you'll be wasting your money and it's probably illegal.
If you think you would like to give the University of Phoenix a try...drop me an email at Jared.Newnam@apollogrp.edu.

Good Luck!

You may have to go to a Junior or Community college first then transfer to a University. But a GED is sufficient to go to college.

Yes, my youngest daughter did so. She married, age 17, had a baby and started college when she was thirty five. She did well in school, because she studied, and graduated Summa *** Laude, she went up to get her masters and graduated with honors from that school. You can do anything you put your mind to. Any one seen the movie "Homeless to Harvard"?
A college would accept you, on past grades, on your entrance exam. And they would look at your desire to get an education as a plus. Go for it.

i'm on the on the spot in college. i'm a senior at Texas State college majoring in medical laboratory technological information, (a.ok.A. medical technologies) we are those who function, and supervise medical organisation laboratories, reference labs, and blood banks. We experiment and study each of the stuff that would pop out of, or infect your body. Oh and that i must point out, it truly is the pleasant decision i have ever made. I truly LOVE what I do! I help keep lives ordinary. i think wanted, and that i'm getting to apply my options day by day. Plus, economic safe practices is an advantage.

A GED is just as if you got a diploma. As long as your ACT/SAT scores are good, then there should be no problem.
