The main objective of a check is to disrupt progress of the player with the puck. When checking a player along the boards, aim your body to the front of the player and his arms, NOT directly on his body. This will have the best chances at a turnover.

Open ice checks are another thing altogether. If you're a lot smaller than the other guys, I don't recommend it. Stick checking would be your best bet here.

Not a lot of hockey players are big, length or width. You don't have to make heart-pounding hits, just keep your knees bent and have strong legs. And in today's hockey, checking is not such a big factor anymore since the rules have made it less physical and more finesse, which sucks.

If you are fast, skate hard and can shoot, why do you care how hard you can hit someone. Work on scoring and finesse and leave the hitting to bigger players

the best way is to pick up a lot of speed and get as low as possible and hit them at about the hips
