Let me re-phrase the question: What are the bright pink bulbs on the end of Christmas cactus brances?

These bulbs only appear several weeks after the flower fades and dies.

I don't think that they are cactus pears. 1. Zygocactus are not true cactus. 2. In 35 years of growing them, I have yet to see one set fruit.

I believe that they could be new leaf growth. If you give it a couple of weeks, I think it will look more like a leaf/stem segment.
