My brother is trying to collect at least one U.S. Quarter minted in each year, in addition to collecting all the State Quarters. So far, he has everything going back to 1965, except for 1975. Now, before '65, Quarters were silver and are mostly snatched up when they're found, but I can't think of a reason '75 quarters are so hard to come by.

Since he started collecting, I've aided him in his quest. I estimate I've gone through an entire roll of 1976 quarters (highly popular - the Bicentennial Quarters feature a Revolutionary drummer on the back and the dates 1776-1976). Additionally, I've probably gone through about $100 in 1965 quarters (easily the most common single year - probably the Mint's idea to pull all the older Silver back before anyone noticed).

So, have you seen one? Any ideas where they went?

1965 is a common coin due to it's mintage and date freeze back then.1,819,717,540 were struck. Now for 1975, there are none. The mint had special permission from Congress to mint the 1776-1976 quarters in 1975 as well as 1976. There are no 1975 1/2 dollars either. You can stop looking for a coin that does not exist.

there all clad coins made past 1964. 1964 was the last tear silver was used for any us coind. The mirror like finish you are talking about is a proof coin that was never used for change that type of coin was made like that just for people that collect coins only. If you handle it the price of the coin will go way down. When there made thay were never handled by anyone. The oils on your skin will make it worth very little but keep it without ever handleing it & put up sealed up it will hold it's value as a proof coin

No regular US quarters were made in 1975, except the bi-centennial quarter which began that year for 1976
