I have just read a story on the BBC News website (link below) regarding a ballet dancer who may be facing expulsion from the English National Ballet company for being a member of the BNP.
I am not a supporter of the BNP, in fact very much the opposite, but it is still a legitimate political party. Is it right for some one to face being sacked because of their political beliefs? I have a feeling that if the ballerina was a member of the Socialist party this would not be an issue. Especially for The Guardian newspaper who "outed" her. What are your thoughts?

This a democracy, the BNP (like them or loathe them) are a legitimate political party.
You cant say that we are going to have a democracy where you can only have certai opinions. Thats rubbish, self-defeating hypocrisy.
So she has an opinion that a lot of people dont agree with, and she supports a political p[arty you do not share opinions with.
Do we have free speech or not?

Who has the right to remove someones right to vote? who has a
right to stop someone having an opinion? Who has the right to interfere with someone obtaining employment because they don't share a certain view? Who has the right to deny a person their basic human rights? New Labour is a communist government, in by the back door and is slowly but surely eroding our freedom away and yet others on this forum are worried about the BNP. Did the BNP lie about WMD, Did the BNP lie about immigration Numbers. Did the BNP destroy the private pension schemes, Has crime exploded under a BNP government, has the National Health Service nearly collapsed under a BNP government. Is it the BNP or the communist party that has set up a secret police force to interrogate those that disagree with homosexuality. I don't think its the BNP you need to worry about I would look at the communist party in power and hope they will go if ousted.

Much as I detest the BNP, we live in a country where people are free to express their political views. This is the right thing - but the BNP is an example of the drawback to this freedom.
If we want to keep the UK a free and just society, the ballerina has to stay in her job despite being a member of an arrogant, narrow-thinking group.

I think that's total BS. If the "arts" world wasn't so left-wing, there wouldn't be an issue. I don't see how her political views have any bearing on her dancing. I mean, if she was calling for the genocide of a race, maybe they'd have a case for tossing her, but from what I read in the article, I think it's just nuts.
Does she have any legal recourse available for wrongful termination?

I didn't think there were non-white people in the world of ballet. It's a rarefied atmosphere full of snobs. If someone wants to dance around like a ponce, who cares what their political beliefs are?
