Dream Girls was an 80's Broadway hit that was just turned into a movie (as you know). The story is loosely based on the rise and fall of the Supremes. The Jamie Fox character is a Berry Gordy like person and Eddie Murphy is a fascimile of James Brown.

The story is NOT loosely based on The Supreme's, it is about all of the strong, talented "girl groups" from years ago, the one's who changed the way people listened, and looked at music. And the way their managers, and other musicians acted are based on a generalization, no one in specific.
