Do you think I should give up and just return my guitar or keep practicing and try harder. My dad said I should just return it since I don't play it anymore ( I got it for Christmas) but I feel that I havent been playing it because of school and work but in the summer I'll try harder to actually learn how to play it. The thing is, I have no idea how to read tabs or chords. what is your opinion?

Its up to you to do what you want at the end of the day.

Playing chords with ease comes in time with practice. When you sit down watching television then practice your guitar without the amplifier. Don't try anything fancy, you are still learning to play. It takes a lot of time and effort but in the end your fingers will move around easily on the guitar. You will get used to a style of playing that suits you most. Try scales for a while, this should help your fingers.

If you think guitar is not for you then return it but wouldn't it be nice in a couple of years to be able to walk into someones house and spot a guitar and play it?

As with everything, the amount of practice equals the better you get.

You can do it- you just have to be determined to learn. I've been playing for two years now, and I am still in the learning stages and will continue to be for years to come. Playing guitar for 99% of people requires lots of practice, dedication, and determination. The other 1% are those lucky individuals that can pick up any instrument and just start to play it. If you really want to learn then stick with it; if it's just something you thought would be cool then take it back and get something else with the money.

If you love music you should keep your guitar and continue to learn. It will take some time and effort, but you will be glad you did it. Guitar is nice because you can take it with you and other people like to hear it. The best way to learn is to find someone else who likes the same kind of music, to play along with you.

I taught myself to play guitar and read music when I was 15 years old, and it has been one of the most enjoyable things in my life.

Don't give up! It's worth a little work!

Keep going tabs are easy they give you the string and fret number, learn some scales and chords. The Beatles only used 3 - 4 chords in all their songs.

You had it for Christmas and you stopped already?

If you really want to do it then you will. Dont make excuses, just do it.

The guitar is good because 20 mins a day is usually enough to get slow but steady progress. AND YOU NEED A TEACHER.

If you cant read tabs or chords.....eh......then start learning.

It is a lot of effort but always worth it.

Go to a local music store, and look for a book titled, "Guitar chords". Its like 5 bucks and keep on trying.
