We're going to Vegas in a couple weeks. My brother is really into Hunter S. Thompson and Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas. Does Circus Circus still have that rotating carousel bar from the movie? If you know of anything else we could do at Circus Circus or Vegas in general that is related to Hunter S. Thompson or the book feel free to add your info.

P.S. We are not staying at Circus Circus, we're staying in a condo near the MGM.

The rotating bar is still there, but it is usually shut down. It was roped off the last time I went there. There is not really alot going on inside of Circus Circus.

Another thing to understand is the Vegas from Fear and Loathing is what Vegas was like 30 years ago. Since then, Vegas has gone through the nobody wants to go there time, to the we need to attract more families time (hence all of the rollercoasters), to the more recent adult fantasy world time (hence Paris, the Bellaggio, Wynn, etc.) Most of HST's Vegas is either gone (torn down, fire, turned into something else) or not a place you really want to be (Circus Circus). Not that you're going to get killed or mugged or something, its just pretty lame. It's almost a shame to walk through Circus Circus seeing everything shut down and NO activity in the casino. My advice is to stay in the newer part of the strip and have a good time. Circus Circus, the Stratosphere, Freemont are all pretty far from where you are staying and have absolutely nothing to offer.

we stay at the Circus Circus every time we go to Vegas...once a year. It is always busy in that place. Whoever said that there is no activity in the Casino must have been wearing blinders and ear muffs.....either that or walked through at 3.30AM. It does have it's quiet times, but I find that a "Good" thing sometimes. On every trip, we visit other resorts. The MGM Grand seemed very quiet on Saturday night. We stay at the Circus for the price, and convenience. It's clean, safe, and right next door to Slots of Fun. That is a great little Casino...it IS lots of fun.

If your heading toward that end of the strip, you have to go to slots-of fun! It's my favorite, its a dive but its so much fun! There is actually a $1 blackjack table that is non-smoking! I have spent many hours at that table. I think the old, not so glitzy parts of Vegas are the best. You never really have a ton of fun in the places that have the fabulous carpet, it crappier the carpet, the more fun. Thats my philosophy! Have fun!
