I see and hear people on the internet and in real life talking about reality television shows and how they hope this guy wins or that girl gets voted off. Whatever happened to creating your own fun and amusement? What happened to creativity? Is it dead, or was it contracted by NBC?

People have been declaring the death of imagination since television was invented. Funny that many of those same people find imagination dangerous, such as those who thought D&D was satanic.

I am one of the biggest fans of television around and I think that society is impacting the quality of television, not the other way around. People like the drivel that they are putting out as "television programming" nowadays and TV producers and executives want to make money, so they try to appeal to the masses. Many people live for the latest reality show and devote their lives to supporting that junk. I myself enjoy getting into television programs, but I like actual comedy or drama shows that have a good story line and good characters.

As for your question, it is easier to get into something that has already been created for us than trying to come up with our own ideas for fun and amusement. But, I do think that some TV shows can spur creativity, as long as the viewer actually acts on that spur. You can come up with cool ideas for things from watching the characters on a certain program...for example I came up with a fun office game from watching The Office. Although, I guess I must give NBC a little credit :)

Absolutly, have you ever sat and watched tv with someone you dont normaly, it makes you think, when you are interacting with someone else, you can really seen the mindlessness of tv. especially commercials, they count on people being zombies.

also if you think about it, man invented the air plane and space ship within about 100 year span, then tv was invented, how much have we advanced now?
