GOD, TEACHES IN SO MANY WAYS, OFTEN HARSH. READ THE BIBLE, THERE ARE SOOO MANY ACTS THAT GOD PREFORMED THAT WERE ....MEAN. FLOODING THE EARTH, CITIES AND PEOPLE TURNED TO SALT, ON AND ON AND ON. SURE, IT COULD BE THAT GOD IS TEACHING YOU FRIEND ABOUT FAMILY VALUES, AND HOW TO VALUE YOUR FAMILY IN THIS WAY, BUT, THE BIBLE ALSO SAYS, THAT GOD IS A FORGIVING GOD. MAYBE YOUR FRIEND JUST NEEDS TO PRAY, ASK FOR FORGIVENESS

Some would say it's karma. Some would say it's God's punishment. I want to say that it's just bad luck. I believe that if you put negative energy into the world, it will come back on you to some degree...I don't see the Universe being vindictive to point of taking it out on others. His actions may have triggered a lot of stress in his family and that can lead to things...but it really comes down to what they believe is the cause, and whether they were taking very good care of themselves in the first place. Support your friend and let him know that it's not his fault. I hope his family members get well and make it through it all, but he has to take care of himself too.

I am kind of split. I cant say I believe in god but once I may have been proved wrong. Me and another kid were duking it out for the spelling bee championship in grade 6 for like 20 minutes. The class ended. The teacher took us in the halls. She asked me to spell the word knives. I spelled it K N I V E S. Either she misheard me or just wanted it to be over but she said wrong and the other guy said the exact same thing. Anyway when it came down to the all school competition the kid was absent and I still got in.

God, fate or karma certainly wouldn''t punish one person by making an other innocent person suffer it would be going against the theory of punishing wrong and rewarding good. If you believe in one then one you have to accept the other.

I used to think my Dad got cancer because I was bad as a child. Ever since he died I have always thought that way. It is not true though. I believe (or try to) that God judges you when you die. He doesn't punish you in your waking life. Although at times I feel the same way you do.

i have an ex- friend who's family fell apart and blames it on her because she does drugs. her parents used to have money..used to go shopping every weekend..white carpet and u had to take ur shoes off when you went in their house. and now, neither parent works...both are on disability, her dad is severly depressed, her mom doesnt get along with the dads family, they are on the brink of divorce...her sister is married with tons of money problems and twins on the way......and my ex-friend does crack, steals (even from her parents), and got arrested for prostitution.
its sad to see how their family fell apart. i was there for all of it, but after she stole from me, that was it. i couldnt stick around anymore.
as for God....hard to say .....i think everything happens for a reason, but i dont see God being that curel just to teach him a lesson. i would think (and since im not God, i dont know for sure) that if God wanted him to learn a lesson, he would do something bad to your friend. good question tho..makin me think!

God does not punish and especially does not punish others for one person's mistakes. God forgives all.

I totally believe that. Quick recent example. Kid at my job said his Grandmother was ill in the hospital (dying, couldn't work, etc). It was a total lie. About a month later the Grandmother actually did drop dead of a heart attack.

I do believe that what comes around, goes around. For me, sometimes it makes accepting the bad times easier if I know I had it coming.
