If you don't want to save them into floppies, try this. This is a good trick. Make yourself another email. Then you can send yourself some files that are not bigger than 10Mb. When you are done sending yourself your files, connect your new computer and download them. For files greater than 10M, you can use services like www.yousendit.com or other free file transfer service. You will spend sometime here, but that's best than paying too much $$$$$ to a guru.
This is the best and easier way if you don't even have an USB port in your old computer. If it happens that you have a USB port, you can also borrow an external cd or dvd burner and burn your files there. But if not, the email trick may work for you.
Hope this helps!!

If the old laptop has a network card, find a friend who has a home network. Connect the old laptop to the network and turn on file sharing.
Copy all the pictures, etc., over to your friends computer.
Either burn them to a CD from that computer, or attach the new laptop to your friends network, and copy the files to the new computer.
