i agree with all the answers already in. yeah, i think they do it for the publicity of course. i guess they get so much bad they have to do something extreme to make up for it. like when Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt had all that press stuff going on because they got together and betrayed poor Jennifer. anyway i agree with everyone. i also want to add if every celebrity and sport star donated just a 1/2 million (which is only pocket change to them) we could probably solve all of the u.s. problems AND all other countries problems.

I think it is like a status symbol for them more than anything, plus in third world nations money talks, here in the US they are stricter because they want the children to go to the best possible home. I hate when celebs adopt foreign children, they ignore the fact that there are so many great children here in the US just wanting a family so badly and they don't seem to care about them at all.

Why do celebs fly on pink personal jets with their pet raccoons? Why do they carry teacup chihuahuas in their purses? Why do they do anything?

In this case, and in the grand scheme of the other stupid stuff that celebrities do, I really can't fault them too much. They're lifting a kid out of a third world nation to give them a better life than they'd ever be able to hope for in their own countries. Yeah, maybe they should adopt from the US first, and maybe they're doing it to show the world how much more they care than you, or to be hip, but the bottom line is that they're doing something (theoretically) good (providing they don't spoil the kid or ruin them with Hollywood society).

Add to that--a kid up for adoption in the US still stands a much better chance for survival, education, and eventual success than much of the rest of the world. I can't say I'm entirely opposed to foreign adoption as philanthropy.

This ticks me off to no end. These are rich American people who are doing it, and for some reason need to leave the country for a kid because it's "humanitarian". Well what about our starving and orphaned kids in the US? All the ones in foster homes?

It makes me sick too. The celebs are only doing it for publicity. "Oh look, we care about those poor kids!" I'd actually think more of them if they adopted within the United States.

Because anybody can adopt a child from the US. But to go to a different country and adopt a child from there is something most can't do. Its the fashionable thing to do.

I have wondered the same thing. While I support and encourage their decisions to adopt, there are millions of children in this country that need loving, supportive homes as well.

Now, with that said, the AIDS plight in Africa is dumfounding. If those celebrities are drawn to supporting such efforts and causes, perhaps that is why the chose to adopt internationally?

Or, maybe it has something to to with the amount of information they are required to disclose and if it goes on public record?

Because its faster and cheaper to adopt from a 3rd World country. Personally I think they should adotp from the US. There are plenty of children who need a good home.

Because its more fashionable to adopt from another country. I think they should adopt from the U.S. as well. Maybe if we took care of ourselves before trying to solve every world problem the U.S. would be a lot better off in my opinion.

I would think mostly because of the adoption laws. the child cannot be taken back like in US.

it's easier to adopt from a 3rd world country - $$ says it all for them.
