The only way you can change your daughters last name is if her real father signs his rights away and your new husband adopts her. Now, if her real father is not in her life and you don't know where he is you can have your attorney run an ad in the newspaper for two weeks and if her dad does not respond you can have her name changed (but you new husband still has to adopt her to do that) Hope this helps!

You can't change it on the birth certificate without the other parent's consent, but you can change it on the Social Security card and have the daughter go by that name.
If it is something she'd want to do she could change it when she is old enough- 18 I suppose.

If your daughter is going to be raised by this man and see him as a her father then yes change her last name. If your daughter is still close to her biological father and he is still active in her life, I would say don't change her last name.

I believe that the person you are marrying has to adopt your child for you to change her name. Before doing anything I would discuss this with a lawyer.

Not without permission from the other parent. If the other parent is passed away, then as long as she is a minor, you can change it.

You new husband would have to adopt her and your ex will have to say o.k. and in some states once he adopts her the ex will be set free from child support and all his rights.
