Selfishness is very stupid thing to call suicide it's your life. I'd like to believe if people are mature enough to make the choice they should be able to. It is actually selfish to assume someone should live against their will. There actually is no selfishness involved since they do it out of personal or survival devalue so there is nothing to benefit the self.
I gave an answer to this kind of question before but, the questioner took the more personal answer over mine which made no sense. Oh, well I don't do it for the points. Here it is.
"The same reason animals do. When death becomes apparent and it is the only option other than suffering.
When you no longer believe you can function and you believe there will only be suffering is when you'll instinctively ponder death. Death is inevitable and feared. When you do not value life you do not fear losing it.
It is an overriding of the mechanism that humans can spend time feeding off an emotion and advanced comprehension of future events to assume survival unsuccessful.
It all depends on the individual and how they perceive events. Hope for some is tough. It's hard to look for what you've never seen. For the fact people can comprehend far more than animals can about future survival is why they commit suicide more often than animals.
It human instinct to run away from a great threat sometimes taking a lesser one in it's place.
It shouldn't be a mistake to assume sacrifice as suicide such as monks burning their bodies or people putting their lives before others." - Me

What was I thinking at my suicide attempt? I tried, I kept trying, I continuously fail. I do nothing right ever and I deserve to die because then people wouldn't have to blame me for doing things wrong. No one deserves to be around me because I can't even be myself because I am condemned for it. Basically, everything that everyone makes me feel. I felt guilty for making people's life bad and therefore, my own. No one deserves a life for bringing other people down. In reality, I was just a human being. I suppose, I really don't know. A feeling that you are the cause of bad things, that you always cause them, and that you cause them where ever is the main reason people commit suicide. (only for depression-induced suicidal tendencies, not for personal reasons such as escaping legal punishment or psychotic suicides though this kind of suicide is pretty interesting)

Selfishness - one could only be thinking of themselves to commit to taking their own life.
You could pose the same question about murder and get the same answer.
We are not to be all about ourselves.
