I am sick of Bush, but still very proud to be an American. I do love America!

It sounds like you have a bit of a bias against conservatives perhaps, just a guess?
I love America, don't always support the president, but I do support the troops we place in harm's way. I would've given my life to protect Clinton as a policeman while he was in office, but I wouldn't have left him alone with my daughters.
So, yes, you can love the country and feel some regret or shame over the president whether he gropes interns, or makes mistakes overseas, or does the rigth thing.

Of course you can. If you find yourself disagreeing with the President it is you right to express it. When you resort to criticizing absolutely everything he does, when you call him a terrorist, tyrant, idiot, or wish he were assassinated, then you are in the "hate America" crowd. I dislike Clinton intensely, I disagreed with him on several things, I never suggested to anyone that he be shot, hanged, or assassinated. I never suggested that Chelsea be spayed. I never compared him to an ape. I never called him a tyrant. I did call him "the President" though, because whether I liked it or not, he did win the election. (I never thought Clinton stole the election either.) No, conservatives did not "hate America" while Clinton was in office, we just thought he shouldn't perjure himself in front of a grand jury on nation television.

Yes you can..... During the Clinton years I disliked our president not hate ( hate is a poisonous emotion) the main difference between conservatives like me and liberals of today, we did not let our dislike for Clinton affect the country policy or give our enemies the illusion that we would do anything to undermine his administration, that is the main difference.

Nobody ever said that you have to like the president in order to love America.

That much was especially evident from January 1993 to January 2001, though, that was more of a case where loving America meant disliking the president.

It is not whether you like or dislike Bush that made people question your love for America, it was the rest of your inane and stupid hatred for any and every thing Bush or the Republicans beleved in or did.

What kind of gutless wonder would have not one dissenter in the country? No one, however, when the majority of people indicate that they think the president is wrong for the us, the rest of the elected representative will take heed and rein in the excesses. The President, after all, only runs twice, senators and representatives can have their jobs as long as they please their constituents. The hating and loving of America hasn't got anything to do with which party is in power, a fact that the braying of the donkeys and the trumpeting of the elephants tend to lose in all the ruckus.

You love your country no matter what. You can always dislike a president/person and do not agree with his/her philosophy but we should never be disrespectful or hateful.

The US, for example, is a great country based on mostly good principles; A country founded by and for immigrants from all over the world. The actions of a president or legislative body do not represent how the country feels.

If you really love your country and what to make it a better place to live, then do something about it. Get involve and vote!

Of course.

I'm not an American and I don't live in the US, but America is a good country with good people. It makes no sense to dislike a country because their head of state is a dolt.

It makes even less sense to equate loving one's country with liking one's government. That is why I cannot understand why so many people accuse their fellow citizens of not loving America just because they disagree with Bush.

Of course you can love America, but that is like scooping up a hand-ful of soil and saying: "I love you."

...and pledging your allegiance to a piece of cloth makes just as much sense.

No, the cons didn't hate America when Clinton was president.

They got everything they wanted, after-all, they had Clinton's hands tied both in Congress and the Senate.

I do. And you are right. Its such a double standard. So many conservatives claim you must support the president or you hate America and love terrorists. They didnt support Clinton, so does that go for them? If in two years Hillary wins will that make republicans Anti-American terrorist lovers?
