The Commander is merely guessing. No one knows how long it will take to restore order. Besides every time we turn around, some 'expert' is guessing some issue relating to Iraq. And they are usually wrong. and No. The U.S. will not be willing to wait that long, but there will be little we can do about it, Personally I for see Bush declaring Marshall Law prior to the end of his term. Too much has happened against this president. His ratings are dismal and it would take a miracle to bring them to an even acceptable level.
So no,. He would want to go out on a more positive note, and he needs TIME to turn things around. It started in the Middle East, it remains in the Middle East, it appears he is obsessed with the Middle East, (Iraq and Iran in particular). and he will want it to end in the Middle East. IN HIS FAVOR.

i think of the priority is that individuals detect (rightly or wrongly) that we're not making any progression in Iraq. it rather is not merely the lives we are dropping (and a great form of Iraqi lives) it rather is the two billion each and every week that it rather is costing. Bush and his pals merely shop asserting that each and every thing is advantageous. For the 1st 4 a million/2 years they mentioned we've been winning, we've been making progression, we've been turning the nook, we'd start to make certain some success. yet we not at all did. finally they simply stopped asserting this because of the fact no person believed it anymore. To 'shop' the conflict in Iraq might take some new attitude. i might desire to make certain Bush say 'properly, that's what we did incorrect, this is why we weren't winning. yet now we are going to attempt something diverse. a clean attitude.' yet he's not in any respect completed that. aside from the 'surge' which of course did no longer paintings. If McCain desires to persuade us he can be triumphant the place Bush has failed (in the perceptions of the yank people), he could desire to be able to articulate some new thought, a clean plan, a clean attitude. in any different case what he's asserting is: "enable's merely shop going the way we are going for yet another a hundred years. it particularly is 5200 weeks at 2 billion each and every week, and tens or hundreds of hundreds extra American deaths and tens of millions of Iraqi deaths, for in certainty no longer something.

The Democrats went on record to say they were going to pull the troops and get out of Iraq. They campaigned on it. I imagine they will wait 2 years to use this issue in the 08 Presidential Election.
If they stretch it out, they'll blame Bush and the Republicans. If it ends early, they'll take credit for getting the troops out. You watch.

Doubtfully. Especially since the former commanders have said that the proposed troop additions will be far too few to make any difference.

Yes its way to long and if Bush insist on doing so, then he and Cheney and the rest of the war mongering neo con fools can fund the war themselves. Wouldn't that be a novel idea?

I'm willing to wait. I understand what is at stake here. I would like to see definite efforts and progress reports monthly. I just wish our media would work with us on this. That is too much to ask for though.

It will be very difficult with this attention deficit generation that believe if you can wrap things up in a few weeks it is not worth it and it is a failure.

He is just saying what Bush wants him to say.
I'm telling ya the US is stalling over there for Bush's
hidden agenda. Your guess is as good as anyone else's what that agenda is........oil, Iran, or the fight for the dollar.
or all of the above.
