I think is depends on the movie, movies like shrek, a shark`s tale or ants the creatures dont speak or do the things they are made to do is really cool when they come to life because of the creativity in the story.
But not the animated type with human characters who walk, talk and live in the real world, i mean why can`t they put real humans to act, remember that Tom hanks movie were he is in the train with kids, it could have been by real people.

The first question; without animation.
Second question; Some movies are fine with animation.
Third question; Some movies would not look good with any animation involved. I feel action movies are great with animation in them, if taht is they did the movie right. Drama's would look rather silly with animation...

Bambi Titan AE Anastasia Rock & Rule Plague Dogs Spirited Away American Pop Robot Carnival Over the Hedge Fantastic Planet Watership Down Lady & the Tramp Fire and Ice (1983) The Secret of NIMH My Neighbor Totoro Howl's Moving Castle The Flight of Dragons Kaena: The Prophecy Weathering Continent The Sword in the Stone Disney's Sleeping Beauty Dragons: Fire & Ice (2004) Starchaser: The Legend of Orin Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within The Snow Queen (1957 Russian) Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas Vampire Hunter D and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust Gargoyles: The Heroes Awaken~This is the pilot film for the TV series "Gargoyles", which I think is remarkable. The Princess & the Cobbler aka The Thief & the Cobbler~There are various versions of this amazing film which took close to three decades to complete. One version is titled "Arabian Night" (circa 1993~date varies). I love animation but not necessarily Disney productions and definitely not most of Pixar. It has to be very special for me. By the way, if you don't mind subtitles, anime is much more enjoyable in the original language; sometimes, voices selected for translation are so jarring, such as Billy Crystal in "Howl's Moving Castle", which makes me cringe every time.

Movies with animation or special effects add more to the movie. Without them, the movie is too real or not as exciting. Adding a dinosaur or a lot of action that people would see normaly makes the movie more interesting.

Recently, the animated movies have been much better, more entertaining than movies with actors.

It would be very difficult to make Lord of the Rings or Star Wars without computer assistance (my faves) but
My friend who works at a senior center, says they will only watch the movies with people , not with the fantasy aspects.
