Some say that the song has a lot of puns and innuendoes... which are really provocative.. as such, is it advisable to use it in class, or was it purely coincidental?

I would say it is way too inappropriate for school children. A year or so ago, a few girls in my class decided to preform it for a school concert, and although there are quite a few noticeable puns in the song, I found it disturbing for other reasons. I find it strange that children below a certain age would enjoy listening to a song with lyrics such as:
"I'm a barbie girl, in the barbie world
Life in plastic, it's fantastic!
you can brush my hair, undress me everywhere
Imagination, life is your creation

I'm a blond bimbo girl, in the fantasy world
Dress me up, make it tight, I'm your dolly
You're my doll, rock'n'roll, feel the glamour in pink,
kiss me here, touch me there, hanky panky...
You can touch, you can play, if you say: 'I'm always yours'"

and

"Come jump in, bimbo friend, let us do it again,
hit the town, fool around, let's go party
You can touch, you can play, if you say: "I'm always yours"
You can touch, you can play, if you say: "I'm always yours""

What disturbs me most is that it is a song directed at small children and the subject matter is Barbie and Ken, while the lyrics seemed rude and offensive to me at 12-14.

I would say don't encourage a class of small children to listen to the song.

It does have alot of puns, that is the point, but it is fine for little children. Children won't get the puns, so it is fine. It is only as dirty as the mind that hears it. Don't take childrens joy away. It is still a fun song regardless of the puns. Anyone grown person who find it wrong for an innocent child to sing the song probable has their own issues.

Alot of cartoons do that same thing. In exsample Sherk, Spoung Bob and Animanicas all had humor for both kids and adults. It will make the kids happy. I mean how many times can a kid sing "Bingo" and"Old McDonanld". If the kids like the song, then let them hear it. If they dont, then dont. It is all up to them.

Let the kids listen to what they like, and if any adult has a problem with it, they problem should be with theirselves.

I wouldn't use it in class. It's not meant to be a children's song and has a lot of double entendres. Sure, the kids might not know what they mean, but their parents will. Just imagine the reaction when the kids go home and say to their parents "Listen to this song that Mr. Rufusmmc taught us in music class today!" You don't want parents calling the school and getting you in trouble.

If you are looking for a good CD to play for kids that grownups can also enjoy, I recommend "All Together Singing In The Kitchen" by the Nields.

You should leave it alone. It has a lot of hidden meanings and I dont think it would be very nice to let them go home to their parents asking them questions about the lyrics.

It really does have quite a few innuendos. Better leave that one alone.

i don`t think this song is too vulgar to be taught to children because they don`t have any idea about "vulgar things". they enjoy the rytm and that`s all
