Statistically speaking, and in the context of your question, people are generally hornier when they are depressed or down in the dumps.
It's a sort of mechanism. Usually when a person is depressed or down in the dumps they don't want to do anything, or perhaps there is a particular task that they don't want to face. The subconscious tries to help out by creating diversionary impulses, if you catch my drift...
