When we die, we go to heaven, if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior. If not, then I don't know...I'm not the judge. To make this life better, read your bible and go to church.

I beileve that we are spiritual beings inhabiting a body. When we die, we simply move on to another body, or not.
We can be re-incarnated if desired to learn more in another life, or we can be self realized Boddhisattvahs to help others become self realized or enlightened; or we can take a spiritual (diesmbodied) form being spirit guides, angels, or ghosts. There are many options, depending on your spirit, and where it wants to go, and where you choose to go during your life. Don't beleive there is a pat answer.
Improving what happens when you move on to the next body (or disenbodiment) depends on your karma (action) in this lifetime.
I would think that if you are a good person and help others, whether or not you are perfect, you will fare better in your next life than one such as George Bush, Saddam Hussein, Conrad Black, Paris Hilton and other political and corporate scum, *** financial celebrities who bleed people dry and do nothing to help anyone but themselves.
Paris Hilton for instance seems to exist wholly to hurt others who might be more talented than she is. Such people deserve pity as they don't see that what they hate is really just a fear of not beign on top, which is silly. Even if you are on the top of the world, how long can yoube the one there? Even Paris is now visiting children's hospitals, so perhaps she may wake up one day?
Political and Corporate trash are another thing. Our governments and corporations have known for over 30 years about the problems affecting the environment and what would happen if we ignored the health of the planet and did not make personal changes and changes in the way we produce things, and reduce waste.
Despite the proof in front of us now, (ie: David Suzuki...) there is still a denial mechanism, their profit is more important than the future of the world. Think about that. What could be worse, than destroying the ability to live on the planet, after destroying the enviroment and the things we consume to live on? The world will not be destroyed just our ability to live here, and all tht financial wealth such people have amassed, poof, gonezo!
Live a good life, and you'll fare well.
Rani
NB: (Nota Bene)
I find it amusing that the latin word c-u-m was turned into *** in my writing. It is also of another meaning, but that is obviously not what I meant. Funny how people can be outright rude on the system, and it's never caught, but don't write ccuumm! Oh goodness, a natural bodily function, we can't talk about.

I guess when a person dies he doesn't feel anything but when he is dieing he feels a great pain and fear of the unknown. I don't think that there is any after life but if we look at the soul as pure energy then it will certainly take some different shape just like we see different forms of electricity. For rewards or no rewards we should try to live well and let other live well as well.

Well just think back to what you remember from before you were born that's what you can probably expect. I realize that oblivion is distressing but you do not have to loose all hope that is where Faith enters the equation if you believe in an after life then go with God (and your bad self) and let your faith guide you. If you have no beliefs that explain, extol or describe what you can expect than do not despair live your life the best way you know how and enjoy every moment as if it were to be your last. Heaven may just be the memories we leave with those whom survive us and that is not so bad is it?

I am a Priest and yes I do believe there is life after death, but not in the way that one may presume. Being a Christian, I believe in God and Heaven. There is a hell too.
From the day we are born,we are judged by God on what we do, think, feel and say. No one is perfect, only God, but if we can do the best we can and ask forgiveness when we know we have done wrong and promise that we shall not repeat the sin and mean it, then we are looked at with favour.
No one can tell you what it is like to die, but if one believes in God totally then it should not be frightening for we know that Heaven is a beautiful place, free from sin, pain and sickness. That we will be with our loved one's that passed on before us, depending of course as to whether they have ived up to God's expectations of us.
Hell is the place one goes if they have been wicked, evil, constantly deny knowledge of God.Then the person will be wracked with pain for ever more.
If one follows the Ten Commandments the golden rules for life, then one can embrace death when it comes for we know that we shall have eternal life with God.
The way to improve our lives, is to follow in God's footsteps. Embrace your neighbour, this means be good to everyone no matter what race, creed or colour. If you go to one particular church, then visit another that you dont normally go to after all, it is stll the house of God and all Christians believe in one God so there should be no fear in going to any chuches.
Always tell the truth, go out of your way to help others, be faithful to the person you marry, all of your life. Ask forgiveness from God, praise God for everything you have around you, life, your relations, fields, trees, water, animals. These are the steps to take. Read your Bible over and over again, for this will guide you through life and in to your new life when you pass from here.

First of all make it clear - that all of us are the sons and daughters of the same universal God who has created this universe.
No particular religion has a special right to salvation or heavens as some of the answers suggest.
It is the deeds which he does is important. No amount of rituals will help to attain salvation, nor a particular religion will ensure that.
Good deeds and remembring the supreme power will help attain salvation after death.
Sometimes I laugh when people say that you have to follow a particular religion to go to heaven. Because we still think in the narrow boundaries of our world , no country or religion has a special visa or passport to the heavens.
Can God be so narrow minded to allow only a certain community or religion to allow entry into heavens.

I have often been involved with questions about death, or our "transformation" when we die. I believe you will not feel anything since all your sensory functions will cease. I also believe the complex electrical energies that kept us alive leave our bodies and become our spirit: our memories. our thoughts, our expereinces; all "live" on in our transformed state. Where we go is anyone's guess, but I do believe in a heaven and also a hell. Which each of us shall occupy is left to the higher order that created us. The rule is as old as time iteself: do unto others as you would do onto yourself.

The very first problem (soon after death) would be to 'know' that it has happened to us !
We know somebody pinches us even when fast asleep, just due to our sense of touch, pain sensation etc...
With the body becoming useless, the input devices not working, is it not like a system "hang" ?
That is why ancient saints, sages, seekers spent better part of their lives to make sure (through spiritual practices) that some internal mechanism is kept receptive, to be able to know things even when body is not available for experience.
The choice is upto each individual.
The experience of earlier people is available.
To trust, believe, disbelieve etc is a choice.

I had an NDE (near death experience) and felt the most euphoric, total LOVING feelings I've ever felt! All thoughts of Earthly existence were gone! Only a "voice" a foot from my face brought me back to "reality". It said, "You CAN'T DO THIS TO KAREN! You CAN'T DO THIS TO KAREN!"
Karen is my only child. I instantly fought, screamed my head off and called to Jesus for help. Two men fought the currents and pulled me to safety. It was the Kansas City Plaza flood in '77, and 33 people drowned. Of course, the euphoria could have come from deprivation of oxygen--as deep sea divers have been know to rip off their masks....
My belief system comes from Physics--Energy cannot be destroyed, only the forms can change. These changes after "death" can only be imagined. "Death" to me, is only death to this present physical body.

When we die, we remain the same in soul and our body is burried, now it depends on our deeds as to where they take us. Good deeds take us to heaven and the bad ones to hell. As for the feelings of death, let me tell you, a person dies naturally or accidentally. When its natural death, one gradually prepares himself for death due to his age, sickness, etc he believes he is about to die and mentally prepares himself. If he was a good person, the good angels come over to take his life and soul, on seeing them, they feel happy as they are shown the doors of heaven where they are to be taken and are happy to go to a better place. On the contrary, if he was a bad man, its just the other way round, the doors of hell are shown to them by the angels of death, seeing which you can understand what a person would feel, so would he feel the same. And when its an accidental death, one gets no time to think or feel about death, he just dies before he is able to start feeling the pains of death. He is already suffering from the pains of accident. Hope I could clear your doubts
