I had a Douglas Fir this year. I got it the week of Thanksgiving (November) and it even still smelled good until the week after Christmas. It shed a lot of needles (I didn't give it anything but plain water) but it still looked really good when I took it down January 5th. None of the branches looked bare; it was just a clean-up issue. I'm definitely getting the same kind of tree next year. It smelled and looked great the whole 6 weeks or so that I had it!

I got it at the local grocery store; it wasn't even a "fancy" fir.

Alternatively, when I was a kid, we used to cut down a cedar tree (juniper) 'cause they're free and use them for Christmas trees. They're ugly and 1/2 the population is allergic to them, but they don't shed needles at all.

Douglas Fir , how about cutting down your own tree at a tree farm then you will know its fresh, and it will last longer. Or if you cant buy it from a good nursery, and spend about $80.

It all depends on what color you want, and if you need a lot of branches for hanging your ornaments. Some trees have more spacing between branches and thus you can put very little ornaments on it. So, it is all about individual needs and taste.

Douglas Fir - aromatic - put it in a good base with tree food in the water. (although, I have good results with sugar water, too,)

Nice to see you back again!
