Never heard of global worms, do they eat the ice??? Seriously, (sorry couldn't resist your typo, no meaness intended). I think that all weather is cyclical, meaning that it goes in cycles. After all, back in 1978 we had an ice storm in APRIL, go figure. 3 years ago we (IL) had one of the coolest summers in a long time, and, as a general rule, about every 10 years or thereabouts we have an absolutely horrid winter and then other winters, normal. This winter however, with the exception of a terrible 3 day ice storm, it's been unseasonably warm, but then again, we probably aren't due until the 2008/2009 winter again for a bad one. This will determine for me whether or not it's more cyclical like I think or those darn worms. (-:

Yes the warm weather we are experiencing is due to global warming problem. I believed that human are destroying the earth by polutentes and toxin in the enviroment. It is not normal for it to be warm all year round. we can not control mother nature weather

Well to answer your questions. 1. I don't know where you live, but it snowed in Perris California, San Jacinto California and in Hemet California on Friday. The only time I saw warm weather was the 8th of Jan (for the winter). 2. Yes I think humans are contributing to the problem of global warming. 3. It is not warm year round-as I explained above. It was snowing in Southern California. Our pipes froze and we have no running water. That does not sound like warm to me. It was around 23 degrees the other night with a high of 50. Warm? No we can not control GOD or the weather.

The strange weather we have been having recently is mostly due to an El Nino in the Pacific ocean.

Global warming is the gradual increase in temperature (about 1 degree) over the past 100 years. It is not responsible for it being 20 degrees above average for a few weeks.

I also think people in the mid-west would disagree with you that it has been a warm winter so far. They are getting prepared for the third major blizzard this season.

Some good and interesting answers. Regarding El Nino. It is associated with a warming of the ocean. In the Pacific, 100's of square miles of the ocean is warmed up. 10-20 degrees even. Now what in the world could suddenly and intermittently warm up such a huge mass of water? And then it is tracked as it travels all the way to the Americas. To me, the only logical event would be an undersea lava flow. The melted rock is at 6000 degrees. It is intermittent. It can occur in any sea area, but the Western Pacific seems to be one favorite area. What could humankind do to cause such a warming? Answer- nothing.

The winter of 2006's warmth has not been caused by global warming. It just happens that many Patterns we watch have all aligned so far for an above average temperature spell. (WAY above average).

Keep in mind, first, what takes place over the oceans, and other parts of the globe plays A MAJOR ROLE in our weather. Oscillatios are patterns that vary and have different effect.s More specifically, we watch things called teleconnections. Which are differences in the atmopshere in given regions. Many of them have names and different locations they take place.

One of the best known teleconnections is El Nino. And This is an El Nino Winter. And El Ninos usually mean extreme variations. El Nino strength has started to decrease. The stronger El Nino is the warmer it is. (GENERALLY SPEAKING)

So this change, is a good sign for cold/snow lovers. One of the crucial oscillations, is the NAO.The NAO needs to be negative for cold/snow. It is currently Positive, and has been. It is slated to go negative in the coming days. Many other factors are indicating a pattern change.

Also there is a strong pacific Jet. Which along with El Nino are the driving factors. A strong pacific jet simply put has to do with where warm and cold air set up. For more information on this...

Early this week temperatures will fall here in the Northeast. By later this week they will go above average again. But right around the 15th-20th of Jan. we will see a full blown pattern change. I already see the potential for some snow events.

Give it time. We still are in for a fun season I believe. I know I predicted Dec/Jan. to be above average. Not nearly THIS Warm. But the time frame I would watch.. The last week of Jan/First weeks of Feb here in the East.

The weather men have stated we are experiencing another El Nino....that I can believe. I also think it's a natural 'global warming'....but I also believe that humans are making it speed up a bit. Natural cold weather is very necessary for many parts of life...like killing certain bugs, or keeping their population down....and even raising certain crops rely on cold weather as part of the process.

Yes - global warming (worming?) is due to increased carbon dioxide and is resulting in increasing temperatures and increased amounts of precipitation. The only way for us humans to stop it would be if we could stimulate plant growth and increase sea temperatures. To do this however, would require us to increase levels of carbon dioxide, increase the temperature and increase precipitation. Any ideas as to how we can do this?

I don't think it's a problem at all, since I hate the cold, snow, and the whole winter season. It may indeed be global warming, but not if you believe exxonmobil:)
