Hi, yes my best friend is on his way to Iraq in 3 weeks also my brother went to serve in Iraq in his first war as a professional infanrty soldier but unfortunately he passed away a year ago by a roadside bomb. The problem with the Army these days is that no soldier who has joined the Army is a freethinker. If they themselves dont agree with a mission or an order, they cannot disobey their superiors so inevitably they do what they're told. I wish good luck to your husband and dont worry so much, tell him to keep his head down and dont let him go into unnecessary situation e.g. when they're is violence between two Iraqi factions; he shouldn't walk into these types of situation. If he has to go into a quiet or deserted town. Make sure your prayers reach him and protect him from evil. God bless your husbands soul and your soul that bares two hearts.

I feel for you I really do, its his job and makes him the man he is, he is in one of the safer professions over there so try not to worry to much. My good friend and sons godfather was in the paras and got bombed on the river so I no how you feel. all you can do is make sure you have a good long talk with him before he goes and let him know how much you and the baby love him, this will keep his spirits up while hes away. good luck to you both and hope he comes home soon x

Hi

First of see if you can find an article "emotional Cycle of deployment". Try to get him to write heaps of letters at least one a week. Yes he'll call but you can't re-read a telephone call. Be careful with the inlaws some times they panic more and end up leaning on the wife.........! Make sure he has signed an enduring power of atourney. Know the name of the military contact point for you. If you can't fiond the article I refer to please email me I will send you a copy. Plan for the worst and hjhope for the best!

As you say, you knew what you were getting into, so this is your first test. Since he is going to be your future husband, all you have to do is pray that he returns in good shape. Don't think about anything which may bring gloom or pessimism, always trust that God will deliver him back to you so that you go through your nuptials. But honey with his type of profession, you will always be on tenterhooks and I hope you will adjust to this kind of life. For your comfort, try watching "We Were Soldiers."
