I have found some clothes from my old room as a child that reek of cat pee. I have already made the mistake of washing two of the three loads in warm water. They still smell, not horribly but enough for me to notice. I have read natures miracle (but where can you find that?)...vinger...ammonia (which one?)...bleach (what if there are colors?). I really need help because I plan on keeping some of the clothes but bringing the rest to a battered womens shelter and don't want them to reek of cat pee.

Hello, I had this happena few times. I had a male cat who drove me crazy by sraying. (which is like the worst smell in the world!) I found several things that worked. Just washing the clothes did not work for me. the smell still lingered! The best thing I found to work is an enzyme product called Bi-O-Kleen Bac Out Stain and Odor Remover. They have Enzyme remover at many stores. The enzyme cleaners break down the urine and remove the oder completely! I also went to Wal-Mart and found Cat Spray and Urine Stain and Odor Remover. A 24 ounce spray bottle was less than $4.00. It was very effective. It left a nice, light pleasant smell, fast acting, and safe for carpets and fabrics. It was well worth the try!

If you want something that you dont have to buy you can also use water/vinegar mix to clean. ( 50% water 50% vinegar) Vinegar neutralizes the odor. It works in the wash, too, if you can launder the item.

I hope this helps you out some... Good Luck and Take Care :)

You can get Nature's Miracle at any of the big box pet stores like PetsMart. It does work. But please make sure these clothes are in good enough shape for a battered womens shelter. I hope you won't feel I'm passing judgment here. These women have just made one of the hardest decisions of their lives in leaving someone who has made them feel like they are not good enough. The last thing a woman wants when she has been beaten down is to feel like someone else has dumped their trash on her. I know you will do the right thing by taking only the best of these clothes to help battered women make a brand new start.

I wouldnt use ammonia.. that may put chemicals on the clothing and make it dangerous for a person with sensitive skin. Try re-washing the load 2-3 times if it has been sitting long.
Or a small ammount of vinegar with detergent may mask the odor and help rid of it.
I also would not use bleach on colored clothing.
Use cold water instead of warm. But a few re-washes.. make shure to use a fabric softner in addition to your soap.. like downy. and using scented dryer sheets should rid of that .
My son likes to use towels to clean the dog's peepee mess.. so I have to make shure to get that darn smell off the towels!!!
