It's not dead, but it's dying. I worked for a local paper for a few years. I saw it's decline which started before I worked there. I kept saying print is dead. People there always disagreed with me. I left a few years ago to do graphic design elsewhere. Most of the people who said it wasn't dying were laid off. I'm now learning internet design. I think they'll still print newspapers for the older generations but the internet will take over. News companies should embrace this. It will save them printing and delivery costs, they should be making more money if they play their cards right. If people want a hard copy of news, for reading on the john, they can print it out.

Traditional print media is not entirely dead yet but it will be if each one of these ancient behemoths don't reinvent themselves. I think the internet has the biggest part in taking away their readers. Generally, user/reader participation is little to none in print media but now with the internet, think wikipedia or youtube, people are putting out so much content that there's really little time left for anything else. In this era, we as consumers like to participate and have a say in everything. Also when one is reading a paper, there really isn't a huge variety of "thinking/philosophy" since it is under the direction of one editor. A newspaper still has its merit, for example take the nytimes, very good op-eds and culture pieces that I cannot find anywhere else, especially on a blog. I believe that we can gain from combining the two in our daily lives.

While I agree that almost nobody reads a newspaper anymore, I still think magazines are doing alright (as I still see the same amount of people crowded around them daily at Barnes and Noble). However, what I don't understand is if print media is dying, then how can the Chicago Cubs afford to pay as much money as they do for new acquisitions seeing as how they are owned by a newspaper company - The Tribune Co.

I disagree because in print media, there is the time to go into more detail, especially at a local level.
