the song is about a woman who loves a man but he doesn't feel the same but she's not gonna give up. she's going after what she wants and she'll make him fall in love with her no matter what.
a song can be heard in a variety of ways; words can be switched around - man to woman and vise-versa - to fit the singer and the singer's gender.
In the era it was written and performed, the drug could've been used since the 60s and so on were the time of free love and peace.
