Weddings have a couple of purposes. The primary reasons, to openly celebrate with your friends and relatives and to receive gifts. If you have any wedding at all....be it how large or small, you need to ensure that the food that you serve at the reception is good, whether it is made by relatives or a catering service...you can have the wedding and reception out in the middle of a field with a beer truck....but the food must be good. Honestly, you should spend more money on the food than your dress. I have been to weddings where the bride and groom wanted money for their honeymoon, as opposed to gifts...it was a small wedding...the bride spent a fortune on her dress...but had a reception with food that sucked. We were very disappointed and many complained. If you want to take the money you have saved or have been given and spend it on your honeymoon...more than your wedding, that is fine. If the money has been given to you **with the purpose** of having a wedding...then your question and desire needs to be addressed to the original giver. Weddings & marriages are reciprical in nature.

It's not wrong at all. The wedding is just one day. The Marriage is what you should be focussing on anyway. Better to spend more time with your life partner, than spend a lot on a big party (wedding). Don't use that as an excuse not to get married at all, unless you are looking for an excuse.

Nothing wrong with it at all. Brilliant idea. Get married very quietly and modestly, maybe just the two of you, a few family members or friends as witnesses, followed by lunch or dinner somewhere reasonable, no cake, no photography, no flowers, and then the two of you fly off to the Bahamas for a gorgeous honeymoon.

Sounds good to me! And you won't have to return all those toasters!

No it's not wrong, but if you are engaged, you should get married. Have a wedding, (doesn't have to be big) and then you can start saving for holidays.

You are smart! I hate these women who brow beat their fiancee into spending thousands so they can think they're some princess for a day. Have a small tasteful ceremony and use the money to travel.Good Idea!

Which begs the question, do you want to marry this person? There is so much room for speculation here that I wouldn't want to give opinions on something I don't know enough about. Good luck.

It's your life therefore the decision is up to you and your fiance. Perhaps you could get hitched in a simple ceremony then go on a vacation/honeymoon together if you wanted.

Nope not at all...no one has to have a big lavish wedding ...it doesn't matter any way really...its not going to make your love last any longer if you spend lots of money....you do whatever you want after all it's your wedding no one else's

no it isnt wrong, 50% of marriages end in divorce, so why not have some fun with the money instead of a big wedding and ring,

You only get married once so splurge on the one day and go on a great honeymoon.
