Yes, it´s the same animal.
The name Orca was given by ancient Romans.
In the 18thcentury Spanish sailors dubbed Orcas ¨asesina ballenas¨, or "whale killer" since orcas do attack large whales. However, this title was improperly translated into English as "killer whale". The term became so prevalent that even Spanish speakers commonly used its retranslation of ballena asesina.
The name "killer whale" is widely used in common English. However, since the 1960s, "orca" has steadily grown in popularity as the common name to identify the species, and both names are now used. Most European languages use the name Orca.
By the way, Orcas are the largest species of the ocean dolphins family.
