Because for the better part of 150 years the United was isolated from the rest of the world. Napolean's rampages across Europe held the Europeans attention while America silently raised it's overall stock.
America worked and sacrificed to build a great nation while Europe focused on issues like family and values.
WWI & II decimated Europe and Asia while America's isolation made the war profitable because its shores were not under attack.

Take a good look. Since 9/11 America is no longer isolated and is losing power both to the EU and APEC on a daily basis. It's borders are overun with illegal immigrants while it politicians vie for power and votes instead of manning up and doing what is required of them.Protect the lives and interests of it's people first. Mix in two wars that are draining the monetary gains of the nation and a debt that will crush the world once it catches up to us.

Unfortunately the United States "golden era" is over and it is merely a matter of time until it all falls apart. But without this colossus in place and the nations of the EU and APEC not being in a position to take up the reigns, should the US fall we may as well enter a new dark age.

Because they stole their land from the red indians, allowed anyone in who was willing to work for little and then stole ideas from around the world. They then ripped off the UK in WW2 which is why they now own most of Britains old overseas territories (where there are good bases) and Britain has only in the last few weeks managed to repay the money the USA lent to the UK in WW2 (£3.8Billion).
They create wars and only allow their own businesses to "rebuild" after the conflict is "over". They then expect their allies (Britain) to help fight their wars for them and once again contracts for the rebuilding of Iraq has been given to companies in the good old USA.
Are you slowly getting the idea?
Please lets not have any rubbish from our friends in USA on this as they know diddly squat about their politicians and what they get up to.

the rise of america can be seen in direct correlation with the second world war.

Whilst Europe destroyed itself, buying from america, and taking out excessive loans with the US. America sat back and did deals with all the war-ing factions, even Germany.

The only way they got around dealing with Germany was they said they would not deliver any weapons, since the royal navy owned the atlantic the germans couldnt get there.

so you got rich, while we destroyed ourselves, once we were all sufficiently depleted you got your act together and mopped up. Virtually stealing the British empire from underneath us.

That is how america became so powerful
