As long as there are good books, there will usually be movies based on them. Sometimes the movies are well done and either match or are better than the book (eg. LOTR, Harry Potter), and some of them are not (eg. Eragon)

I enjoy the Harry Potter books immensely, can't wait for number 7 to hit the racks, however, I believe that J.K. Rowling borrowed heavily from J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy. Many similarities of characters.
It is always true that when something becomes very popular, someone will try to do a cheap knock off. Its the way of the almighty buck.

No. So long as it gets some 'good' films out in the cinema I've no problem with people jumping on the book-to-film bandwagon.
