Say you close at 10:00 p.m., and at about 5 or 10 minutes til closing, somebody comes in and TAKES THEIR OWN SWEET TIME to eat or shop? You're all standing around and it's obvious that it's closing time, but these customers are laughing and lingering over coffee, or checking out every single thing on every single shelf like it's 2:00 in the afternoon.

It's almost as if they are doing it on purpose just to piss you off, isn't it?

Thank god I don't work in retail anymore........I would have been arrested for assault by now. LOL

I use to work retail. I have always thought that every person should have to work one Christmas season in a mall. I loved it when even after the mall was closed people would expect you to open back up for them. I think some people think that if you work in a store or restaurant that you are not as good as they are and you are just their to serve them. Yes helping people is your job, but you are not their to serve them

Yeah, I work in a restaurant. I don't mind if someone comes in that late just for a quick take out order, but when they actually sit in the restaurant and eat and stay past closing time, ugh! They just don't care that they are keeping all of us and are likely going to cause us to have to stay 30 minutes to an hour later than we normally do. Of course we don't expect to get out right at closing time, because we have sidework to do. But some people don't understand that the sidework is time consuming and closing a restaurant is actually a pretty complicated process. Customers coming in so close to closing time just slow everything down so much. There are things that we CAN'T do at all until all the customers are gone. And then there are people who don't actually show up right at closing time, but they've actually been there for HOURS and are just sitting around chatting and are definitely NOT still eating. We used to have this group who liked to sit around playing Scrabble and they would stay until about 30 minutes past closing. I mean, really, you have to sit and do that in a restaurant? Go home and play your stupid game!

Yes, I remember those days. It can be very annoying. BUT....as long as you have regular hours...then you must abide by them. And even though it's not polite for costumers to do that(come in at the last minute), they have that right!

Just be thankful you have a job....there may be a time when you don't...and would love to be annoyed by such people.

BTW...when I worked in cafes...sometimes the cook would shut down the grill. That way people would have to choose from something much faster to fix and eat.

I used to work at London Fog and every night the sleeves on the jackets had to be perfectly lined up in a certain way. Every night a group would end up coming in and needing to look at every jacket in the store, on top of that it seems that they never bough anything. I will never work in retail again (knock on wood).

Some people are just senseless to time and don't really think.
Its those same kind of dummies that think you are driving too slow when you are actually speeding and they instantly change lanes and get behind someone way slower then you (and then I laugh!) because they aren't senseful enough to pay closer attention. Sorry....had to vent about this mornings traffic =)

I hate it when people do that. We just announce that we are closing and in our minds (to get the hell out of there)

Customers can be rude. You have to learn to ignore them and that is a hard thing to learn.
