"Reasonable place to stay"?- The way to cut cost most effectively is to plan ahead and go Sunday through Thursday and avoid special events and large conventions which drive room rates through the roof...The same room one week might be $30-$40 the next it might be $300-$400 and that's no exaggeration.

A couple of my favorites for nice rooms good food at a reasonable price
Orleans - very nice rooms, great eats, one of the best buffets in LV>lunch runs around $8 , the graveyard specials at the Courtyard Cafe are a real bargain..Free shuttle to the center of the strip(Barbary Coast). The table games(minimums) and cocktail waitresses are as good as it gets. The Orleans however has decided to trash its once great video poker and slot games, the paybacks are now among the worst in LV. So, I will probably still stay there because I like the place/rooms and I might play a little Pai Gow Poker every now and then, but I will take the vast majority of my play elsewhere, their loss...

Palace Station - Tower rooms are nice, garden rooms are motel 6 like. Their buffet is the best deal in LV right now>breakfast $4 - lunch $5 - dinner $6. If you're a player at all Staion casinos are great about sending out room offers(free/discount)

Main Street Station - downtown LV - one of the neatest hotels in LV - nice rooms, love their casino, incredible artifacts/antiques from all over the world>part of the Berlin Wall, Bronze doors and Facade from the Royal Bank of Kuwait, etc....A great buffet, lunch $8 - the 777 brew club is one of my favorite places to eat..

Sam's Town - on the Boulder Highway - Free shuttle to several locations on the strip and downtown, their shuttles are very nice greyhound busses. Nice rooms, great views of either the mountains or ask for one overlooking their indoor park(Mystic Falls)>one of my favorite areas to sit have a drink and relax. The Buffet is a good, not great one..One of the last great places to gamble in LV, very good video poker, expecially for DW(deuce's wild) players, good slots and low table minimuns, I really like their casino, it's fun..

Barbary Coast - Sits at the major itersection of LV Blvd and Flaminigo. So if you have to be in the middle of it all this is a good choice. Nice rooms, 40in plasma screen tv's. A couple of the top restaurants in all of LV >with the prices to prove it. No buffet, no pool, great location.

It's Vegas baby! Nothing is reasonable! Just, do NOT, NOT, NOT stay at the Las Vegas Hilton. It is a complete dump, and a little pricey, especially for what you get. I spoke with someone while we were there in October who said they got a good deal on a room at the Wynn. It is beautiful! As far as places to eat, the place is jammed with restaurants. I wouldn't suggest any place over any other. Try lots of them at the different hotels. Wolfgang Puck has a restaurant at the MGM Grand I believe, and it was really good, and not too bad! Have loads of fun!

I used to go to vegas all the time, but havent been back in 9 months. From what i remember most buffets are around $25 give or take a couple bucks depending on it being lunch vs. dinner. The Paris has a good breakfast buffet. Bally's and Ceasars Palace have a pretty good lunch buffets. And most places have a Dinner buffet. As for a regular meal, ESPN Zone at the NYNY hotel is pretty good for just plain ol' american food. Just a few suggestions for ya.

The Imperial Palace is my pick, I was happy with my stay there. Go to www.imperialpalace.com - they are in the middle of the strip, and if you sign up for their Casino Gold special, it's $65/weekday and $85/weekends, but includes buffet breakfasts or lunches, free drink coupons, admissions to the Auto Collections, etc. Sign up for their newsletter, they send me one about once or twice a month with a $49/night weekday promotion all the time for a deluxe room.

As far as eating goes... a lot of hotels have buffets which are generally great. There's a neat little place in the Desert Passage Mall at the Aladdin, that's just across from the thing where it rains and thunders INSIDE the mall (you have to see it to believe it), that has the best pizza slices, and they have sandwiches and stuff too, nice and inexpensive. Then you can go to a place like Planet Hollywood at Ceasar's Palace and sit around a place filled with movie memorabilia but your check is probably going to be very pricy.

Good Luck, and I hope you enjoy your trip!

Try Downtown casinos, Look in the Las Vegas Weekly and CityLife > both are free and in newsracks and stores all over town. They rate dining and drinking. A very good idea

Check out the Sahara. It is less expensive than other hotels on the strip and quite solid. We stayed there last month and were happy with it. Our impressions below:
