the important difference that DDR2 is newer technology that builds on the DDR memory technology. Sadly, the two are mutually incompatible; i.e. you can't stick DDR ram in a DDR2 slot and vice versa.

DDR2 is for new machines DDR is for older machine it was sd before that dips before that
