Yes. There are two types of alcoholics. The first HAS to have the drink at some point. The second, once they do have the drink, they can't stop drinking.
So, if the person only drinks on weekends but drinks until they have had way too much because they can't stop after a couple of drinks, they are considered an alcoholic. However, if they drink only weekends and can stop after a few, they are not an alcoholic.

Yes. I would say they're definitely not the worst case scenario, since they can avoid the drink for five days a week, but they still could be an alcoholic. It really depends on the drinking duration and number of drinks during those weekends.

LOL, You can drink once a month and still be an alcoholic, there are many types of alcoholics, sounds as though they may fit the "Social Alcoholic" category.

If someone cannot get through a week-end without drinking then yes they are an alcoholic.

I went to Al Anon for a long time due to my ex being a drunk. The bottom line was, "if your drinking causes a problem, you have a drinking problem." Maybe it takes this person all week to get back to normal. It's not how often you drink, it's whether it controls you or not. It doesn't matter if it's wine, beer, or whiskey either.
