Better at what?
The USA and the countries of Great Britain are very similar countries/cultures. Yes, there are differences, but also incredible similarities. So one is not "better" than the other.
Hello across the Atlantic to our friends in England, Scotland & Wales.

Surely you mean which is better?
And they're quite different. Legally the UK is more liberal, just look at immigration and gay rights, but is more expensive than the US in many factors. The US is bigger, and has a LOT more space than the UK. The UK population is the equivalent of 1/4 of the US population, but on a much much much smaller land mass. Meaning things are generally closer together and smaller than you'd find throughout most of the US. The UK has a national health service, so they dont have to buy medical insurance. However, the UK is known as rip-off britain because so much stuff is more expensive there. Whereas things are comparably cheaper in the US.
I guess each country has merits and downsides of it's own...personally i'd rather live in Canada or Spain!

America is better because it is the closest thing to an idealistic inspiring genuinely free and progressive country grounded in strong family values that the world has.
Britain is an overcrowded messy country where we let the culture change according to who happens to be the latest boatload of immigrants. So because we don't have ideals written down anywhere in a constitution we just go with the flow of demographic change no matter where that takes us. So for example we have lost the freedom to criticise religion openly because our expanding muslim population demanded a change in the law. British society adapts to meet immigrants needs whereas in America immigrants adapt to meet America's needs.

No offence to the nice Americans (Which is probably most of you) but this goes to the assholes who are full of there country,
1. We didn't need your help in WWII,
We were fighting Germany and then you guys came in just using your nukes like toys.
2. In the American war of Independence, you did not win,
We simply let you have it, because we wanted to kick the French ***, also why did you go and ask them for help, *******!!!
3. Carrying on from the last point, George Washington was English, he was born in York and he went over there just because he wanted to.
But to answer the question, at this point in time, none of us are better. RANT OVER.

Vegetable Soup... you are one brave lady!! I take my hat off to you!!
Britain isn't all it's made out to be. Me and My partner are emmigrating... can't wait to get out of this dump!
The UK is full of scum bags and sooo many immigrants that are sponging off the state. Everything is too expensive and taxes are sky high unless the government pays for you to live... and have about 40 kids then you're loaded!!
And as for which country is better then I'd say neither... The US are practically killing off the world with the shear amount of pollution they pump in to the atmosphere just because you "need" a 7ltr engine in your cars.... Grow up and think of future generations!!
Bush... join the Kyoto Treaty and swallow your pride!!
And don't even get me started on the Religion... Muslims - how dare you!! This is originally a Christian country... why should we abide by your rules?????? (May I add... I don't follow religion)
Muslims win... the law was changed - WHAT A JOKE!!!!

I'm an American and I'll say Britain is better. The people are not as rude or obnoxious, and frankly they're more responsible. Also, the country is cleaner and more civilized.
Bracing myself for the onslaught of thumbs down I'll get for this answer.
