Well the only real MALL in Boston is Copley/Prudential shopping area. It has Nordstrom and Lord and Taylor. Also inside is a movie theater, au bon pain, Cheesecake Factory and several other great stores like Coach, Cache, Apple, etc. . . Other great shopping places would be Downtown Crossing (Macys, Filene's Basement, H&M), Fanueil Hall (small individual stores like Ann Taylor, GAP, etc), Newbury Street (upscale shopping) or you could leave the city a bit to go to the Cambridge Side Galleria, which is a mall a few minutes away. . . It has Best Buy, Macys, Borders, and basic stores in the mall. It also has a hotel basically right next door, and is across the street from the train station. There are good places to eat there as well.

Undoubtedly, the mall at Copley Place is great. It has the towering Marriott and Westin hotels that sometimes have special weekends rates, a movie theatre and two floors of indoor retail shopping with big name retailers like Niemen Marcus. From the Marriott, you can walk across the street to Lord & Taylors and Sachs Fifth Avenue which is also connected to the Prudential building that has another indoor mall of popular shops in its lobby. Two streets over is Newbury St, a mecca of higher end shopping, Ritz Carlton hotel and at one end, Boston Common (Boston's much smaller version of NYCs Central Park). On the other side of Boston Common is the Freedom Trail which leads to Fanuel Hall Marketplace, and open air market and food pavilion. You can easily find brochures anywhere in Boston that have maps to all the sites and places of interest (Boston Aquarium, Museum of Science, Museum of Fine Arts etc...) that includes a map of the MBTA - subway system. There are also malls within a half hour train ride to the North, South, and West of Boston that have any major big box or retail store you can think of (Sears, JCPennys, etc...)

Newbury street is awesome and so is Prudential/Copley Place. If you're willing to travel a little further (25 mins) The Natick Mall in Natick is currently upgrading itself. Soon there will be a Nordstorms and Neimen Marcus, but right now it is still a good mall.
