Most definitely. You should always be well groomed. Would you want to hire a slob if you were looking for an employee.

You should also take a resume with you, and show confidence.
I wish you luck.

Absolutely... I know you've always been told not to judge a book by it's cover, but here's the real deal. Everyone does it! Whether it's fair or not doesn't matter. I can tell you that as a manager when I am looking to hire someone I usually have more than one applicant, in fact there are usually lots (considering the state of unemployment in this country). The first thing I look at is going to have to be that applicant's appearance. Sounds shallow? Maybe, but that's the real world. If I am looking for a cashier (that will be working 1 on 1 with my customers) you had better bet that I'll be hiring the person that DOESN'T have the 15 facial piercings and the blue hair.

Key Points:
1. No visible piercings beyond earrings (and only 1 or 2 sets).
2. Well groomed (shower/clean well-fit clothes)
3. Shoes (clean/appropriate for position) ... yes your mother was right about shoes making the outfit!
4. Nails (clean/trimmed... not bitten)
5. Confident smile
6. Firm handshake
7. Bring a resume

This question is making me thing of the movie called "The Pursuit of Happyness". There is a scene in that movie when a man is getting an interview and the interviewer asked him, " What would you say if I hired someone that had no shirt on?" The person being interviewed answered, "He must of had a really good pair of pants."

This men was able to get the job in the end, even tough he didn't have a shirt.

If someone has the capability of being an awsome employe they should show it. Wearing cloth that does not represent that you are a hard worker (for the job you are getting) could be very hard to get the job. You must be a gifted individual if you do not dress properly.

It is best to show you talents with the way you dress.

It shouldn't matter..but in reality it does......they did a TV show about 10 years ago on this...they sent two women out on job interviews...one lady, was about 40 pounds over weight and not very attractive in the face and kind of frumpy looking..she had all the qualification needed for the jobs...she was well spoken and very intelligent...the other lady, was slim and looked like a model and was well dressed..she had none of the qualification and during the interview she really played the "air head".....can you guess which of the two ladies got the job(every time) ?.....If you said the slim "air head"...than you guess correct...... the TV show tried to interview the different companies that had interviewed these two women.....to find out what had made them choose one lady over the other....all the companies declined to comment...by the way, there were equal number of men and women doing the interviews....so ,women also seem to gravitate toward the better dress and more attractive woman...the qualification seem to count for nothing.........

Absolutely. We live in a world where being attractive is a desirable commodity. It has been proven over and over that taller men get paid more than shorter men, and attractive people are more likely to be hired and promoted than unattractive individuals. That said, we can't all look like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Just make sure that you're clean, well dressed (fashionable and appropriate), well groomed and have a positive attitude.

Definetly. Would you hire a well presented person or a bum? Not a hard choice. You represent that company. If they don't like what they see walking in the door, what makes you think they will wanna keep seeing it everyday? hmmm? Personality is also as important. Those are THE top 2. good luck.

I believe that appearance has a huge influence on careers. I don't think it is physical looks as much as the way people dress and present themselves. Someone once told me that you should dress for the job you want, not the job you have, I think that is good advice because employers and clients want to work someone that will present the company in a polished and professional manner.
